Ginger's Ten!

Ginger turned 10 today! She was awfully excited to turn a year older and has proven it's true by growing out of her sneakers and getting too tall for her pants. The sleeves on most of her shirts are too short, too. As a result, most of her gifts were clothes. We'll see how the shirts fit. It's tough when she has a body like my family tends to have-- a size 8 torso with size 12 length arms.

Anyway, we celebrated Ginger's birthday in a rather staggered fashion because Wednesdays are so busy. Last Sunday, I made her requested birthday breakfast of waffles and ice cream and her choice of salmon for dinner that night. It was nice to have some good protein for dinner after the sugar overload at breakfast.

We had Ginger open her gifts right after school today before she went to basketball practice. I got a chance to decorate for the first time using the banners my sister made me for Christmas. I think they look cute and festive.

I took a picture of the family waiting to get the ball rolling.

I had to take a quick shot of the cute birthday girl.

Ginger was her usual silly self as she opened her gifts.

Ginger loves to cook, so this gift should be perfect. I can't wait to try some of what she produces. After someone else tries it first, of course. No, seriously, it will be fun.

Some of Ginger's wonderful goofiness rubbed off on the family as we went.

And, yeah, the shoes. Don't even ask. She really wanted them, but I can't tell you how grateful I am that they didn't fit. I normally love Keens, but YIKES!

After dinner (and Ginger's basketball practice and Pen's ballet) we did the whole cake and candles thing. A neighbor surprised us with a cake she made for Ginger, even replete with candles, so we used that for the big hurrah.

Happy Birthday, Ginger! We love you and we're glad you're in our family!

Looks like a fun celebration! I'm guessing the Keens were too wide, right? I love some of the styles, but we've never had any of the non-sandal styles work.

Thanks for sharing in the celebration. It was almost like we were there with you. Miss you Ginger, and the whole family. Great pictures Jana.

It was fun to get a glimpse into the 10 year old's celebration. Pretty soon, she'll be taller than you (maybe)...or at least her arms will be as long, eh? Love and miss you all!

Oh, happy birthday to her!!!!! Love the pictures! I know I've said it before, but she and Belinda have a lot in common. Belinda LOVES the cookbook she got for her birthday last year. I bet Ginger will have the best time with it!

JA-- I think the Keens were just a tad too big over all. She has just outgrown size 5 and size 6 is too big. Wish they had half sizes.

jww-- she already has a few cookbooks that she's loved, but I figure baking is a good way to make a foray into being in the kitchen with no help. If she messes up cookies or a cake, oh well. At least it won't be dinner that's ruined. ; )

happy late birthday to ginger! : ) has anyone ever mentioned that she looks a bit like ginny in the harry potter movies?

carmar-- no, she's never been told that. She has, however, been told she looks like Nicole Kidman a few times.
