The Big Two!

Yesterday was a momentous one-- not because it was Mother's Day, but because Big turned two! We decided to spend the day celebrating Big, with plans to make up my Mother's Day at a later date (I hope!).

It was a long day of waiting for Big. He kept walking over to the presents and saying, "Can I open my presents now, please? I need my presents now. Please?" Finally, after the guests had arrived and we had eaten dinner, it was time to open gifts.

Big was hilarious when he was opening his presents-- there was one present in particular, a much bigger present than the rest, that he had his eye on-- so he rushed through his gifts, saying a quick 'thank you' when appropriate and tossing the cards aside all together. When he had opened all of his gifts but the last big one we tried once more to convince him to open his cards, but he just pushed the cards aside again and said (while eyeing the big gift), "No. I need more." When no one moved quickly enough to suit him, he shoved everything off his lap and hurried to get up, saying, "I'll get it. I'll get it!" It was hilarious. Why is greed so cute in a 2 year old?

We made Big wait to open the largest gift until last because of what was contained within. It was a bubble mower. Big is a huge fan of lawn mowers and of bubbles. Needless to say, the desired reaction was achieved-- getting him away from the gift to blow out his candles was a bit of a task, and he abandoned the cake immediately afterward to return to his toy. But, who wouldn't?

Big is a ball addict, so for his cake I made half of both a basketball and a #2 billiard ball (because he's 2, of course). Here's a picture of the 2 part cake:

Big did a great job blowing the candles out.

Today, I took the boys outside so Big could enjoy his bubble mower with its full bubble effect. He mowed...

and mowed...

and mowed....

AND MOWED!

In the middle of it all, however, he managed to find a few moments to spread some dandelion love around the neighborhood. Such a giver.

Happy Birthday, Big! We love you!

That is such a cute post! 2 year olds are awesome! (We have a 2 year old birthday coming up in September). I heart 2 year old greed. When it's 13 year old greed, it's not cute at all...
The cakes are AWESOME!

Wow! good job w/ the cakes! And that bubble mower's neat. My nephew just turned 2 last month. They're so adorable at that age. At any age. *laugh*

Thanks! I had to make sure the basketball had a lot of texture so it didn't look like I was giving my son a set of boobs. ; )

jwise-- Fondant Hero? Really? I'm flattered, but shouldn't that title be reserved for someone who's used it more than twice in their life? The only two times I've fondanted (I decided to make it a verb) are for the two cakes for the boys this month. But thanks.
Hmmm.... maybe I'll make myself a t-shirt with "FH" on the front.... ; )
