Four!

Yesterday was Bud's fourth birthday. Four! I can't believe it. Bud is a fabulous kid, very caring and sweet. He sings almost constantly-- this place just wouldn't be the same without his songs to set the tone. We love him, high-pitched screams and all! I am glad we were able to celebrate Bud's birthday and show him just how much.

Rophone was able to take the day off work, so Bud got to spend a lot of time with his dad for his birthday. They even cleaned under the couches, finding a few cars that Bud had been missing terribly. Talk about excitement!

As dinnertime neared, some family showed up to help us celebrate Bud's birthday. The kids had a great time playing outside until dinner was ready. Here's a shot of the birthday boy:

Bud's dinner request of homemade macaroni and cheese, steamed veggies and grapes really hit the spot and gave us the energy to continue on with our party. The kids were having such a great time together that it was hard to convince them it was time for Bud to open gifts, but we finally managed.

After Bud opened gifts it was time for cake and ice cream. Bud wanted a "racetrack" cake, but after some discussion we came up with this instead of a typical racetrack. He really liked how the roads were in the shape of the number "4" (although he really wanted a "5", but I told him we'd do that next year).

Here is Bud singing Happy Birthday to himself while he holds "Funny Fred", a "Little Dude" creature hand sewn for Bud by Pen:

Thanks to all who came to celebrate with us. It was a great party! Happy Birthday, Bud! We love you!

I LOVE THE CAKE!! That is adorable!! Oh my! How did you do the "road" (the grey)? Is it fondant? It is fantastic!

Thanks, jwise. Yes, it's fondant-- my first foray into that arena. I colored some gray for the road and then a little more of it yellow for the stripes. After the excavator cake last year I couldn't just go back to something plain. (What does this mean for my future?! No more lazy cake making for me, I'm afraid.)

You have set the bar high in the cake category, that's for sure. I always thought Bud was older, he has a wise little face or something, but he's actually younger than Eli by a few months. Maybe someday they can meet and get to know each other. :D

Super cute boy. I'm glad he had a great birthday. 4 is such a great age to be. I love the cake, too, especially the use of the geotrax stop sign.
