I thought the chocolate cake frosted with pudding was too brown-blobish, so I bought some strawberry marshmallows Pen has been wanting to try, sliced them up and fancied up the cake a bit. I don't think it turned out too bad:
Here's Pen opening her first gift:
Thanks, Auntie Art!
Opening the necklace Bud and Big picked out:
Happy Birthday, Pen!
Blowing out the candles in 2 tries:
Big sure does make a cute gift!

Looks like a great time--and the cake looks smashing. AND in some of those pictures (I'm thinking the open-mouth "wow" picture in particular) she looks waaayyyy like you!
Happy Birthday Pen!
Cute cake (and girl, of course)! Hope she had a fantastic day. Let's get together soon (after our sickies pass--Tosh started the "croup bark" at about 10pm last night, but seems to already be feeling much better).
Thanks about the cake, JA. I was pretty pleased with it, considering how easy it was. Now that's my kind of decorating-- no skill needed!
I noticed that she looks like me in the "wow" picture, too, but even more than that I was struck by the fact that she and Auntie Art seem to have the same hair color.
I can't believe Pen is 10!!! Time just goes by way too quickly. Thanks so much for the fantastic books you sent over last week--that was so sweet of you. Tell Pen she looks beautiful and John and I hope she had a phenomenal birthday :D
She is so cute, but looking so grown-upish, too. Those glasses are perfect on her. And super cute cake, too. I always buy my kids' cakes. I need to start making them....
