The Big Sick

I don't know why it is, but my boys sure don't handle being sick very well (Rophone included). Big is suffering from a cold right now, poor kid. Being stuffed up makes him miserable and he wants to be sure everyone is aware of how bad he feels.

Last night, Big moaned almost the whole night long. For a while, I tried going in there to wipe his nose and tell him to go to sleep so he could get feeling better. That didn't do any good, of course, because his nose just kept running and he wanted me to know it. (Moaaan.. "Nose wipe!", MOOAAAN... "Nose wipe, Mom!")

Then, I tried to ignore the moaning, which ended up being even worse. I began to have awake/asleep dreams (you know what I'm talking about) that I was a school bus driver, driving 50 rambunctious kids on a field trip. Yeah, I know-- awful! And there was this one kid on the bus, with the most annoying moan, that could be heard above all of the yells and screams of the other children on the bus! (Oh, and the engine of the bus sounded like Rophone's snoring! Yes, lovely!)

Finally, at about 4:00 am, I just gave up and rocked Big for about an hour until he settled down and managed to wipe his nose on my shoulder until it was fairly clear. It was really too late for me to get any good sleep, but I think Big managed to get a few hours after that. Hopefully this cold will pass quickly. I really can't handle that bus driver dream again.

I hope you managed to catch a nap! I cannot function after nights like that.

No nap. Not functioning. (and people are coming over tomorrow night!)

Oh- I LOVE nights like those! Getting only about 2 hours of "shallow" sleep (versus the much preferred "deep" sleep), which feels like only a few minutes have passed. I have one child that I noticed today is showing signs of an on-coming cold, so I may soon join in on the sleep deprivation! BTW, you better be here by this time next year so we can begin the next generation of Peterson/Hilverda New Year's Eve game nights (and perhaps even Fourth of July baseball games, if you're up for the competition)!

Did you just say the word "competition", Lisa Marie? Oh, I'm up for it all right! I AM the one who just reminded Eric that I beat him on the Hunter's Safety Exam when we were 10. (It's your dad's fault-- all his teasing just brings it out in me!) You're going DOWN! (except in Pinochle-- I never quite picked that up)

Wow! What a night. I hate those kind--they make the next day so hard. Hope he is feeling better soon. That really stinks. :(

Cindy Lou and Grandma Rhino are both in the throes of a nasty cold (the Wizard apparently had the three-day version), and the wee girl in particular is doing a lot of feeling sorry for herself. Actually, I think Grandma Rhino is too, she just doesn't throw a tantrum every time I try to put her down. Makes me realize how spoiled I normally am with her entertaining herself!

You're getting a good workout-- carrying around Cindy Lou AND Grandma Rhino! It's good to know that Rhino doesn't whine when you put her down for an occasional break.
